Porsche 911 SC test drive

In 1978 the new 911SC (S for Super, C for Carrera) combined previous years 911S and Carrera into one basic 911 with Coupe and Targa variations with a 3.0 litre engine. It had wider rear fender flares and wheels. The previous Carrera’s anti roll bars also became standard on the SC.911SC models worldwide came equipped with power brakes also.

In 1980 U.S. models became ’50-state’ cars with oxygen sensors and a three way catalytic converter to battle emissions. In the U.S. models air conditioning, Power windows, black window trim and leather covered three spoke steering wheel came standard. The turbo model was dropped from the U.S., Canada and Japan model line up. An optional alarm system was available for the first time from factory. In 1981 the Turbo was once again available in Canada. The first slant nose turbo came out on July 16, 1981. They came from the restoration shop at Zuffenhausen, special order conversion became an official option for the 1987 model year.
